Our focus is on providing exceptional service to our clients while also offering the very best in veterinary care available to our patients. We strive to make you and your beloved pet feel right at home with us so that you can both enjoy a long, happy and healthy life together.
For more than 45 years the caring professionals at Cypress View Veterinary Clinic have been providing quality service and care to our clients and patients in the Medicine Hat area. Since moving to our current location in 1996, the clinic has grown from a two-Veterinarian practice to an extensive team including 7 full time Veterinarians, 11 Registered Veterinary Technologists, several Veterinary Assistants, and our amazing front end team who handles our reception and front-end needs.
Cypress View is a small animal practice servicing companion animals. We offer a full range of comprehensive veterinary medical services, including vaccinations, wellness exams, elective surgeries, orthopedic surgery, internal medicine, dentistry, nutritional counselling, and ophthalmic surgery. We also prepare pet passports for international export. Our small animal clinic is limited to dogs, cats and exotics.

I love being a part of people’s families. Growing with them and their pets and helping through the sad days or celebrating when their pets get better. I also love to neuter things.

Horse jumping and riding and running.

Dr. De Baene
Dr. De Baene was born and raised in Brugges, Belgium. He graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Gent in 1999. In 2006 he immigrated to Canada, and spent three years working in a veterinary clinic in Fort MacMurray. He moved with his family to Medicine Hat in November 2009.
Axel’s interests include music, computers, trap shooting, and Belgian Draft horses. He has a male cat named Molly and a dog named Ellie. Dr. De Baene enjoys puppy and kitten appointments, surgery (especially orthopedics) and diagnostic ultrasound here at Cypress View.

What brought you to Medicine Hat?
Cypress View was the first clinic I worked at when I graduated vet school. I moved to Brooks, but missed CVVC so much that I came back!
Why did you become an veterinarian?
A passion for animals and wanting to learn more about them.
Why do you love veterinary medicine?
I am able to help pets and their owners. I also love teaching and mentoring students and new graduates. It’s so rewarding!
What are your hobbies?
Playing flute, reading, yoga and running.
Do you have any pets?
One cat named Bagheera and I have a Golden Retriever named Poncho.

I made up my mind when I was 6-years-old and couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Wellness and preventative care.

I grew up in Medicine Hat and came back to spend time with my dogs, and human family, after university.

I couldn’t imagine doing anything else! Grew up on a farm in BC and loved caring for all of our animals.

Surgery and exotics/wildlife (specifically Birds of Prey)

The hot summers!

The variety of cases that I get to see and the procedures I get to perform. I also get to meet new animals and people.

Beading, crafting, puzzles, gardening, fishing and camping.

I am from Medicine Hat originally!
Why did you become a Veterinarian?
I decided to become a vet because it was the profession that combined my love of animals with my love of medicine. Plus who doesn’t love playing with kittens all day?
What are your special interests in veterinary medicine?
I am passionate about feline care, as well as rehabilitation medicine.
What do you love about Medicine Hat?
Medicine Hat has such a strong sense of community. I love that I can go anywhere in the city and see someone I know, or a friend I haven’t talked to in a while. The Theatre community here is also fantastic!
Why do you love veterinary medicine?
I love that I get to connect with owners and form strong bonds with them and their pets.
What are your hobbies?
In my spare time I love to stay active and go running. I also enjoy being a part of plays and musicals here in the city.

Dentistry is my biggest passion but I also love emergency medicine.
What do you love about Medicine Hat?
There are so many walking trails both on and off leash. Everything in the city is relatively easy and quick to get to. Also, it’s close to the American border which makes for great trips, like to Glacier National Park.
Why did you become a registered veterinary technologist?
I always wanted to help animals. They can’t tell us what is wrong so it’s our job to “listen” extra hard and help advocate for them and educating the owners about their particular pets.

Getting to help animals and educate their owners about preventative care.

Sewing, baking, walking the dogs, agility and movies.

I grew up on an acreage outside of Seven Persons and moved to Medicine Hat when I was married. I still visit the acreage weekly.

My own dog became very ill when I was younger and I spent a lot of time at a clinic with her. I never know about veterinary technologists and became curious about the career and here I am!

I am the Pet Travel Consultant for our clinic and I get a great deal of satisfaction ensuring that travel for an owner and their pet is as stress free as possible.

I moved here to attend college and then, a number of years later, moved back because I absolutely loved the city and the weather.
What do you love about Medicine Hat?
I love that it takes me 4 minutes to get to work, the milder weather, and that you are only 20 minutes from anywhere you need to go. The miles and miles of walking trails are fun to explore with my furboys too.

I enjoy seeing the excitement in new owners when they add an new pet to their family and the learning that I do every day.
